Our Story

Alessandro Lanaro, founder & CEO of Modo, was born in Cortina d'Ampezzo in the heart of the Dolomites of Northern Italy- recently recognized as the "Natural World Heritage Site" by UNESCO.

Alessandro moved to New York in 1990 and founded Modo. In 2008, he commited to changing the eyewear industry by thinking of business in a new way: creating a necessary product in a responsible and sustainable manner. As a result, Eco was born: combining the concept of "made from recycled content" with powerful initiatives such as planting a tree for every product sold, and finding an easy way to allow customers to donate their unwanted frames to those in need.

"Hundreds of millions of people around the world use corrective eyewer. This is a huge opportunity to make a difference," says Alessandro. "The power lies with the retailers to make sustainability attainable for all and that means offering a desirable, quality collection at a fair price. For this reason, we see the purchase of Eco eyewear as participation to a social movement."
